Here's the story . . .

The original artwork for Blue Boy was created by Thomas Gainsborough in 1770. Pinkie was done by Sir Thomas Lawrence in 1794. In 1927, these two paintings became entwined forever. Much the same as Patrick and Jessie, who these custom paintings were created for.

Patrick and Jessie were deeply in love. In 1929, when Patrick was 18 and Jessie was 15, they'd already been together for a year. They lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, and planned to marry as soon as Jessie turned 18. Unfortunately, that never happened.

Jessie's father disapproved of the relationship. He wanted Jessie to marry a man who had adequate financial means instead of a man who had to build from scratch. Jessie protested, and there were many arguments. Soon, Jessie's father got a job offer in Christchurch, New Zealand. He decided to move this family there. Jessie was devastated. She actually ran away and hid in Patrick's house. Patrick's mother alerted Jessie's parents, and she was forced to go to Christchurch. Patrick vowed to come for her as soon as she turned 18, and they would marry.

Jessie's mother sympathized with the young lovers, and she tried to convince her husband (Jessie's father) to let them marry. He became more enraged by his wife's approval of Patrick and more convinced to keep them apart. Before leaving for Christchurch, Jessie's mother had these two paintings done, similar to Blue Boy and Pinkie. Ironically, Patrick and Jessie resembled Blue Boy and Pinkie, but these paintings were made to look more like Patrick and Jessie. Blue Boy and Pinkie were becoming popular as a set at the time but still rare to find, so it was luck that Jessie's mother was able to have these custom made. Patrick and Jessie performed a promise ceremony over the pictures. Patrick took the painting of Pinkie, and Jessie took the painting of Blue Boy.

For the first year after moving, Jessie and Patrick wrote each other every other day. They became closer than ever and more determined to be together. Patrick was saving money and making serious plans to move Jessie back to Scotland so they could be married. He got a job and bought property to build a house. Suddenly, though, Patrick's letters stopped coming. Jessie became desperate for a response and posted letters every day. But there was no response for months. She didn't know what happened, but her immediate thought was that he found someone else. She was devastated and fell into a deep depression.

One night, she decided she couldn't go on. She snuck out of the house with rope, tied it to a tree in her backyard and hung herself. Her mother found her there the next day. She was horrified. In her grief, she blamed her husband. He was so distraught, his normal alcohol consumption tripled, and he lost his job. He went out all night and slept all day. The family rarely saw him.

Jessie's mother shared her daughter's confusion over Patrick's sudden departure from the relationship. She was certain something was wrong. She became suspicious of her husband who dropped clues of wrongdoing based on guilt. Soon, she followed that trail of clues to the shed in the backyard. Hidden in a wooden box were unopened letters from Patrick. Jessie's father intercepted the mail and kept the letters from her. She also discovered letters from Jessie to Patrick. Apparently, Jessie's father took the letters before they were posted so Patrick thought Jessie had abandoned him.

Jessie's mother wrote to Patrick explaining everything. A few weeks later, she received a package from Patrick's mother. In the package was a letter. What she learned was shocking. Patrick was depressed over losing Jessie. He thought she found someone else. On the very same day, at the very same time, almost 12,000 miles away, Patrick snuck out of the house with a rope, tied it to a tree in his backyard and hung himself.

It was the darkest misunderstanding in history, and it was because a father wouldn't accept the man his daughter chose. A man who obviously would rather die than live without her. Such a sad ending.

Another thing in the package was the painting of Pinkie. Patrick's mother didn't want it in the house any longer and returned it.

Jessie's mother left her husband and moved back to Scotland. She put these paintings on the wall side by side, and paranormal activity immediately began. She and her sons saw clear images of Jessie and Patrick. They were always close to the paintings. The paintings remained in the family for three generations, and countless people have seen the ghosts of Jessie and Patrick. Not just family members but visitors, friends, repairmen, anyone in the houses where these pictures were displayed.

Jessie and Patrick have never directly interacted with the people who have seen them. They usually appear together, and they only interact with each other. They’re seen dancing, laughing, talking, sitting together, embracing, kissing, and crying in despair. When they cry, they appear alone. Jessie is seen more often alone than Patrick. Visions of a tree with rope have been seen. When they talk, sometimes people can make out the conversation, although it sounds distorted, and other times, it’s silent. Only their lips are moving. Sometimes they’re in solid-appearing form and other times, they’re see through. When they appear, these are not fleeting images. They tend to hang around a while. The longest a vision lasted was almost 15 minutes.

The activity only seems to happen when the pictures are displayed together in a quiet area of the house. The last owner specifically said, if the pictures are not hung or not together, there will be no activity. He also said activity usually takes three to nine months to happen in a new environment. And to pay very close attention to possible activity in the beginning. Apparently, when they first start appearing, the activity is quick and mild but builds to something significant over time.

While we can't verify these claims of "super activity", we can say these two pieces seem to have a very strong energy presence to them. I've seen other pictures of Blue Boy and Pinkie, and they didn't have this type of intensity. Also, of course, we can't guarantee paranormal activity from these items. But if the claims made by the last owner are true, these pieces should go to someone with experience with the paranormal. Some of the images described are frightening. I would not feel comfortable selling these pictures to a novice or someone who scares easily.

Specifics ~

According to the last owner, these pictures were custom made around 1930 in Scotland. Since I'm not an expert in picture frames, I can't confirm the exact year, but they're definitely very vintage. They're approximately 9x7, wire hang backs, and in good condition. Certainly not perfect. Blue boy has a mark or tear in the upper left corner. Since it's covered with glass, I can't see exactly what it is. There are some vague ripples on the top of Blue Boy, too. The backs have brown paper, and Blue Boy's is torn. There are some tears on the back of Pinkie, too. Please view the pictures carefully. The frames may need cleaned a bit, according to your preference. We don't clean anything since we don't want to disturb the energy.

Important: We pack every single item appropriately using bubble or pillow wrap, cushioning paper, cardboard, padded envelopes, sturdy boxes, fragile stamps, and any other necessary method to fulfill our responsibility as the shipper. Therefore, we are not responsible for damage caused by the postal service after the item leaves our hands. Any shipping problems should be directed to “claims” at the US Postal Service. The insurance included with shipping is $50 to $100. If you’d like up to $5,000, there will be a $10 fee since the cost depends on the distance and whether we use first class or priority mail for your package. We have a listing for additional insurance. Please add it to your order if you’d like additional coverage.

We only ship to addresses within the USA (including Hawaii and Alaska). If you live outside the US and want to order from us, please secure a US shipping address through a mailing service.

We proudly recycle shipping boxes for environmental and economical benefits. About 30 percent of our orders are shipped through recycled shipping boxes. We only reuse boxes that are in proper condition, and we use all new shipping envelopes and packing material.

Not all of our items have “haunting histories” so please read each listing very carefully. For the items that do have haunting histories . . .

They will arrive to you as we receive or find them. We do not “spiritually cleanse”, physically restore, or even dust off these items. They're all sold "as is". We don't want to disturb their energy state as any part of the object is an extension of that energy. If you, the new owner, decide to clean or restore the item, that's your choice, of course, but many do not.
