Here’s The Story . . .
Dorothy & The Dolls ~
This is one of two Christmas decorations made by a lady named Dorothy. She made a white St. Nicholas for her granddaughter, Emma, and a blue St. Nicholas for her grandson, Ethan. Ethan and Emma were twins, and they weren’t allowed to see their grandmother – ever!
According to the story, Dorothy was over-the-top with excitement about being a grandmother. She wasn’t always the best mother in the world, but she was determined to be the best grandmother she could.
She babysat her grandchildren every day while their parents were at work. She took them on weekends. They went to the park, shopping, to lunch, and she baked cookies for them every week. They played amazing games, she told them old stories, and they watched movies while eating popcorn under lighted, handmade forts. Dorothy adored her grandchildren and cherished every minute she spent with them.
Then Dorothy had a major falling out with her daughter (the mother of the twins) in the late 1970s when the twins were 5 years old. The fall-out was over a minor issue, but her daughter and son-and-law became harsh and unreasonable. After a huge fight, they abruptly cut ties with Dorothy and wouldn’t allow her to see the children. Most people suspected they cut ties because Dorothy’s daughter held resentment from past issues, and their relationship had been strained for years prior to that. Regardless of the reason, Dorothy was heartbroken.
Over the next six years, Dorothy tried and tried to resolve matters with her daughter and son-in-law. She sent gifts to everyone on holidays and birthdays, invited them to dinners, sent letters, and left phone messages. Every effort was ignored. Dorothy cried every day because she was missing so much. Once, she sneaked into a play her grandchildren were in and sat in the back. She just wanted to get a glimpse of them. Their father caught sight of her and made a violent scene, throwing a chair at her and calling her horrible names. In tears, she ran off and never tried that again.
The St. Nicholas doll ornaments were made by Dorothy for her grandchildren when they were 11 years old. She planned to send them along with several other gifts, like she did every year without a thanks or acknowledgment. This year, however, they didn’t reach her grandchildren. Dorothy died that December, right after she made these decorations.
Her best friend, Ruth, found her on her bed, with these ornamental dolls on each side of her. Boxes, toys, new clothes, and wrapping paper was everywhere. It was obvious, she was getting ready to pack and send things. Ruth knew every detail of what Dorothy had been through over the years since she was Dorothy's dearest friend and only confidant. That’s how we know Dorothy’s backstory relating to her family and these dolls.
After the house was cleared out, Ruth approached Dorothy’s daughter and tried to give her these dolls. The daughter yelled at her and slammed the door in her face. So Ruth kept them.
According to Ruth’s grandson, Todd, these dolls are highly haunted with Dorothy’s ghost.
Ruth and Todd’s Experiences ~
Countless times, Ruth, Todd, and his father saw Dorothy standing beside or behind these dolls. She either smiled at them or looked sad and distressed. Many times, she held out her hand. There were times when she spoke to Ruth, but she couldn’t understand what Dorothy said. The apparition would linger, too. It would move from room to room in one sighting, and it didn’t disappear for several minutes.
Once, Todd went to the attic to get the Christmas decorations, and he saw Dorothy standing in the corner. She appeared to be solid. She moved towards him and spoke, and he was able to understand her. She looked off in the distance and called for Ethan and Emma. Then she looked directly at Todd and asked, “what happened to Ethan and Emma?” This scared the heck out of him. He ran downstairs and frantically told his grandmother what happened. After that, he lived in fear constantly. He was terrified to go upstairs to his bedroom. He was afraid to stay home alone. He even spent a few nights sleeping in the car.
Ruth didn’t want to throw the dolls away since her dear friend was obviously attached to them. But she didn’t want her grandson terrorized either. She suggested finding Ethan and Emma.
They tried to track down Ethan and Emma to give them the dolls, but they weren’t able to find them. Todd looked for years, and there was no trace of them in their hometown or online. Then, one November day, someone knocked on their door. It was Emma, all grown up.
They invited her inside for coffee, and she refused. She was solemn and serious and quietly remained in the doorway. She only asked for the dolls and wouldn’t exchange pleasant conversation or answer questions about her life or Ethan. Todd quickly ran upstairs to retrieve the dolls. After giving them to her, she turned and walked out the door. The visions of Ruth stopped completely. The energy in the house felt lighter. The stress of worrying about visions was gone. Things were back to normal.
Then, one year after Emma came for the dolls, Ruth noticed something strange on her front porch the evening before Thanksgiving. As she went closer, she was petrified. It was Dorothy sitting on the front steps with a doll on each side of her. As Ruth stared mouth agape, Dorothy quickly turned to look at her through the window and said, “now I know where they are.” Ruth passed out and told her story after she woke up in Todd’s arms. Todd quickly looked outside. What he saw sent chills down his spine. The dolls were side-by-side facing the house on the welcome mat. They didn’t know what to do. They were afraid to bring the dolls inside but they were afraid not to as well. Finally, they brought them in, wrapped them in thick cotton cloth to preserve them and put them in a closet in the backroom of their finished basement. The visions of Dorothy started again, but it was different this time.
Dorothy was heard and scene in the basement, but she couldn’t seem to move from the basement. Before, when the dolls were on the upper levels of the house, she was able to move from room to room. The family only went into the basement in pairs during the day.
Once, a repairman had to go into the basement at night. Ruth and Todd heard him having a lengthy conversation. When he was done working, he came up to the kitchen and commented about how nice the lady downstairs was. So apparently, anyone in her ghostly presence can see her. And since she’s very talkative, most people can hear her. But not everyone can understand what she’s saying.
Ruth had a psychic reading done in recent years. She didn’t mention Dorothy or the Christmas dolls. The psychic told her she felt a woman named, Dorothy, in the house, and she’s attached to two objects. She went on to describe her appearance and the type of objects. She said Dorothy attached to the objects because she had unfinished business when she unexpectedly passed, and she recently spent time making those important dolls for her dear grandchildren.
The psychic agreed to take the blue doll home to try to “release” Dorothy. The white doll stayed at Ruth’s house. That very night, the psychic and Ruth both experienced an angry visit from Dorothy at the same time. She screamed a silent scream with a look of rage on her face. The next morning, they found the rooms the dolls were in were trashed. Ruth contacted the psychic and asked for the blue doll back. She thought Dorothy was angry about the dolls being separated. Since then, though, the dolls have been separated at various times without any negative incident. Dorothy’s appearances during the separations were intense but not angry.
Ruth lived to be a very old lady. She has since passed on, and we bought the dolls from Todd. Nobody else wanted them. Ruth’s son (Todd’s dad) is an old man himself, and Todd has no interest in keeping them because he’s anxious and apprehensive of paranormal objects, especially these dolls.
We’ve had the dolls less than a week, and we haven’t seen or heard Dorothy yet. But the energy is extremely strong and intense with these special objects. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dorothy poked her head around the corner to say hello . . . Or ask about Ethan and Emma.
Specifics ~
This listing is for the white ornamental doll. Dorothy described this decoration as the “White Christmas Saint Nicholas doll”. Todd called it “white Father Christmas”, and his father always said it looked like an elf. It’s well made, about 15 inches, covered in cream, red, and green fabric with a decorative crystal staff and a bag full of flowery winter goodies. He’s dressed for winter with a long white beard to match. Ruth and Todd insist the face and hands are porcelain. I disagree. I believe the face and hands are made of high-quality plastic. The base interior is a plastic cone with foam. Please view pictures very carefully.

Vintage & Antique Items ~
Not all of our items have “haunting histories” so please read each listing very carefully. For the items that do have haunting histories . . .
They will arrive to you as we receive or find them. We do not “spiritually cleanse”, physically restore, or even dust off these items. They're all sold "as is". We don't want to disturb their energy state as any part of the object is an extension of that energy. If you, the new owner, decide to clean or restore the item, that's your choice, of course, but many do not. By sending the object to you the way we received it, you can make the decision rather than us making it for you.
Energy cannot be destroyed but can be transferred or transformed. So maybe it’s not such a far-reaching, kooky, or ridiculous idea that intelligent energy could attach to a special object. However, attachment and expression are two different things. Just because a haunted object exists doesn’t necessarily mean it will produce a paranormal result. Perhaps the intelligence behind it needs to be in a comfortable and secure position before reacting. So please allow time for your object to bond to you before you see results of any spiritual manifestations. Bonding could happen immediately, or it could happen in six months or a year. In some cases, it doesn't happen at all for one person but a friend or a family member or even a pet could cause a reaction. If you're magnetically drawn to an item, it's meant for you. That doesn't mean it will open up to you immediately. But it does mean, it most likely will.
