Here's The Story . . .

We bought this phone from a vintage shop in Massachusetts. The shop owner was frightened of it and was glad to sell it to us. According to him, the toy is haunted by three spirits.

The first spirit is a woman named Laniet. She's spoken over the phone and says over and over, "this is Laniet. Help me." Her voice sounds like a woman in her mid 20s. Apparently, she will speak to men only. If a child or a woman answers the call, she will remain silent. And when I say, answers the call, I mean, the phone rings, and she's on the other end. She's said to have lengthy conversations with men, and one man in particular spoke to her from when he was a teenager until his 30s when his wife got rid of the phone.

The second spirit is named Kate. She sounds older, like a woman in her 60s. She gives warnings of impending danger. Once, she warned the owners of a house fire. They were skeptics turned believers when the house caught on fire two days later from an electrical issue. She warned another owner about faulty car tires. The young lady was playing a phone game with her little boy when a woman's voice suddenly said, "you're going to have an accident if you don't replace your car tires." She took the car to a mechanic who verified that. Another warning was given to the same woman about her little boy. The phone rang and Kate told her to go to Orchard Street as fast as she could. The little boy was in danger. The mom did and found her six year old son talking to a strange man who was aggressively trying to get him in his car. She arrived just in time.

The third spirit is a little boy named Oliver. He revealed his location as Aberdeen, Scotland, and he has a strong accent. He doesn't call, but he is often on the other side of the phone if you pick up the receiver. Apparently, he prefers to speak to women or children, and he will speak for hours if you have the time. He always knows the name of the person he's speaking to without being told. And if a man picks up the receiver, he sometimes asks for the woman of the house or a child who lives there by name.

There have been frightening visions attached to this phone, too. It's had three different owners, that we're aware, of over the years. All three of them had experiences with "phone calls" and visions. The visions usually happen in the quiet of night. Children have gotten up to see an event playing out in their bedroom. Adults have woken up to cries and screams only to investigate and find an event playing out in the living room or in their yard outside.

One of the visions includes a little boy sick in bed with people standing around him. He's coughing and pale. (Probably Oliver.) Another vision is a young woman running from a man with a gun who shoots her. (This could be Laniet.) A disturbing vision of a man drowning a woman has been associated with the phone when left outside. A few owners woke up to see a vision of a man pushing a woman underwater in their backyard. The phone was left on the back patio or by the back door when those visions happened. Another vision is that of an older lady, smiling with a little boy by her side, also smiling. The little boy in that vision also looks like Oliver, and the woman could be Kate. Some speculate that Kate was Oliver's grandmother. There are some other nice visions as well. Children in 1960s and 1970s clothing, playing hopscotch, hide -n- seek, jump rope, and jacks. And a vision of a dark forest with nobody around. That is very commonly associated with this toy.

The shop owner said this item is extremely energetic and has scared his employees and customers by ringing and presenting visions. He had the phone in his shop for two years. From his experience, it goes through spurts of no activity at all to very intense, high activity. There doesn't seem to be an anniversary or seasonal component or specific length of time to it. He said it could be days, weeks, or months with no activity and then days, weeks, or months with high activity. It's a unique, interesting piece.


Specifics ~

This is a Fisher-Price Chatter Telephone. The shop owner said he believes the phone is an original from 1961. One of the previous owners said it was from 1962 and another believed it was from 1969. The phone has a copyright symbol from '61 printed on it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was made in 1961. In my research, I was able to confirm that it's an older model, most likely from the early to mid 1960s. It had a white pull cord that was cut. I wasn't able to find any at all with a white cord so that's unique. We don't know why the cord was cut. The phone is in very good condition for its age and distribution. The noise functions work well. It moves well, and it's eyes move when it's pulled. The dialing bells work. The receiver string is sturdy. Wheels are intact. The colorful paper under the finger dialer that reads, "chatter phone" is lifted a bit on the top. It's in place though. You could probably add glue to it if you'd like it to lay flat, but it's really unnoticeable. Other than that, there is no visible damage. The phone is fairly clean. No stains that I can see, but it might need wiped down a bit depending on your preference. The bottom is wood. The top is plastic. About 4x7. Sturdy, medium weight.

Shipping ~

Important: We pack every single item appropriately using bubble or pillow wrap, cushioning paper, cardboard, padded envelopes, sturdy boxes, fragile stamps, and any other necessary method to fulfill our responsibility as the shipper. Therefore, we are not responsible for damage caused by the postal service after the item leaves our hands. Any shipping problems should be directed to “claims” at the US Postal Service. The insurance included with shipping is $50 to $100. If you’d like up to $5,000, there will be a $10 fee since the cost depends on the distance and whether we use first class or priority mail for your package. We have a listing for additional insurance. Please add it to your order if you’d like additional coverage.

We only ship to addresses within the USA (including Hawaii and Alaska). If you live outside the US and want to order from us, please secure a US shipping address through a mailing service.

We proudly recycle shipping boxes for environmental and economical benefits. About 30 percent of our orders are shipped through recycled shipping boxes. We only reuse boxes that are in proper condition, and we use all new shipping envelopes and packing material.

Vintage & Antique Items ~

Not all of our items have “haunting histories” so please read each listing very carefully. For the items that do have haunting histories . . .

They will arrive to you as we receive or find them. We do not “spiritually cleanse”, physically restore, or even dust off these items. They're all sold "as is". We don't want to disturb their energy state as any part of the object is an extension of that energy. If you, the new owner, decide to clean or restore the item, that's your choice, of course, but many do not. By sending the object to you the way we received it, you can make the decision rather than us making it for you.

Energy cannot be destroyed but can be transferred or transformed. So maybe it’s not such a far-reaching, kooky, or ridiculous idea that intelligent energy could attach to a special object. However, attachment and expression are two different things. Just because a haunted object exists doesn’t necessarily mean it will produce a paranormal result. Perhaps the intelligence behind it needs to be in a comfortable and secure position before reacting. So please allow time for your object to bond to you before you see results of any spiritual manifestations. Bonding could happen immediately, or it could happen in six months or a year. In some cases, it doesn't happen at all for one person but a friend or a family member or even a pet could cause a reaction. If you're magnetically drawn to an item, it's meant for you. That doesn't mean it will open up to you immediately. But it does mean, it most likely will.
